![]() ![]() When you string together two or more of these blocks, they look like friendship stars entwined in a ribbon. ![]() The pattern uses the 8-at-a-time method of making half-square triangles, but you could make them one at a time or use Triangles on a Roll (4″ finished size) if you prefer. These blocks are made up of half-square triangle units and they’re large, so the piecing is easy. This quilt measures 60″ x 72″ and contains 15 Ribbon Star blocks that measure 12″ square. My pattern, Stars of Courage, is my first contribution to the QOV efforts. I appreciate the sacrifice of all veterans, past and present, and the service they have given for their country. To be honest, I’m not a member of QOV, but I admire their philosophy. In the quilt shop I work at, I often see Quilts of Valor in various stages of development. In my area of Northern California we have a strong and active QOV membership. The Quilts of Valor Foundation appreciates the service and sacrifice of those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces and protect our freedoms. Quilts of Valor is a veterans support group. Our group of quilters meets twice a month and we have a great time sewing love into every quilt. ![]() When we began this mission, we never dreamed we would receive the support that has been given from our community. This group makes the quilt tops, locates a long arm quilter to put the quilt together, and will hand deliver a quilt to veterans who request one through our group or through the Quilts of Valor website. In 2016 when our QOL members became a part of the Foundation we dubbed ourselves the Mason-Dixon Hot Toppers with Patricia Egger as the group leader. Quilts of Valor Foundation has also made some changes to their organization with a new focus of providing a quilt to cover any veteran who served our country. ![]() At the end of the ceremony, 45 minutes later, a veteran was seated in each chair wrapped in the. Over these eight years there have been changes in the QOL group members but their enthusiasm has not changed. Each had a folded quilt ready to be awarded to a veteran during a Quilts of Valor ceremony. Since our inception, we have delivered quilts to the Red Cross at the Walter Reed Army Hospital and to the Army hospital in Afghanistan to cover our wounded warriors who mean so much to us. and living Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of. So much so, that Ruth became the leader of a group of QOL dedicated women who were interested in making a difference in the lives of wounded service men and women that sacrifice for our country every day. Before completing this nomination form for a Quilt of Valor (QOV). Ruth Cheslock had visited a chapter of this organization in Florida and was deeply moved by their dedication to a very worthy project. In April 2009, Quilting on the Line members formed a chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. ![]()
